"Kia ora everyone and welcome to our new resource called Te Mātāpuna. This resource has been designed to help you with te Reo Māori and with our pronunciation, and to give you guidance around some of our customs and protocols. We called the app Te Mātāpuna because it means "the spring that comes from the earth", the same meaning behind Fonterra. We hope that you enjoy using the resource and we encourage you to learn more about te reo Māori and our customs and protocols."
Mihi from Tiaki Hunia General Manager, Māori Strategy/Pouhere Māori for Fonterra staff
Te Mātāpuna is an educational resource for Fonterra staff to learn basic tikanga and te reo Māori to support their day to day mahi.
Interactive features within the app include pronunciation of Māori words, maps with Māori names and iwi groups, values (Ngā Mātāpono), and principles, mihimihi/pepeha (introductions), ngā mihi (greetings), poroporoaki (farewells), whakataukī (proverbs), and waiata (songs).
One of the App’s key features is that it allows staff to input their own personal information to create a customised pepeha for when they lead, or a part of, discussions that involve Māori communities.
The App also contains details of Fonterra’s global and New Zealand sites with information on products made at each location.
