Te Waka Tipua o Mataatua is an immersive, image-rich narrative of the voyage of the great Mataatua waka.

Te Waka Tipua o Mataatua is a hapū interactive digital app developed by Te Tawera Hapū, Iramoko marae, Ngāti Awa.

This is the Ngāti Awa version of the voyage of the great Mataatua waka, from the origins in Ma’uke, Te Aka Toka Manava to its landing in northern parts of ancient Hawaikitautauoterangi.

Te Waka Tipua o Mataatua was developed through the Ministry Of Education’s Te Aho Ngārahu fund, an initiative to improve access to quality te reo Māori localised curriculum resources to support learning in and through te reo Māori in both Māori medium and English medium settings.

Interactivity has been used to create an immersive experience with an original, image-rich narrative.

Tūtapa mai nuku, tūtapa mai rangi, ōi, ka tākina te mauri o Mataatua. I waihangatia mai te waka Mataatua i Ma’uke, i Meetia, i Te Aka Toka Manava, i Ngaru Kai Whatiwhati, i Parinuiterā.
Recite from below, recite from above, call out, chant the essence of Mataatua. The Mataatua waka canoe was created in Ma’uke, Me’eti’a, Te Aka Toka Manava, Ngaru Kai Whatiwhati, Parinuiterā.
