Far North District Council – Kōrero Mai Te Reo

Kōrero Mai Te Reo is the Māori Cultural Competency Guide developed by the Far North District Council.

The Guide encourages and supports elected members and employees in their journey to become more confident and strengthen their understanding of Māori language and protocols.

They choose their kaiako (teacher), and learn through interactive features that include pronunciation of Māori words,  ngā mihi (greetings), customisable pepeha (introductions), karakia (affirmations) and waiata (songs).

Also included are interactive maps showing the district’s iwi, marae and wharenui details where staff will learn the iwi, hapū and marae of Te Taitokerau ki Te Raki / Far North and how to pronounce Māori names correctly.
