Te Kete Reo o Tāmaki Makaurau

The Department of Conservation’s new Māori pronunciation app Te Kete Reo o Tāmaki Makaurau, is designed to help people identify and pronounce the names of some of our most loved places, animals, and plants in the Tāmaki Makaurau/Auckland region in Te Reo Māori.

Also included is a small selection of common phrases that you can use in either formal or informal settings.

Pronouncing words correctly is important, as it pays respect to our Treaty of Waitangi Partners, the indigenous Māori who first settled in Aotearoa.

This app will help anyone who is working in and around the Hauraki Gulf and wants to be able to enhance their own knowledge of Te Reo and help educate others about the language.

Free to download on the App Store, Android coming soon.
