Reaching diverse audiences

We have launched the first in a series of ten digital puzzles for pre-schoolers that will introduce tamariki to te Reo Māori in a playful way, helping normalise the use of the language in New Zealand.

This first release is a fun matching pairs game that introduces pre-schoolers to te Reo Māori words and phrases on a Christmas theme.

It draws on an iconic New Zealand character, Slinky Malinki, and a much loved Christmas title “Slinky Malinki’s Christmas Crackers” by Lynley Dodd, and is produced with the generous support of Penguin Random House New Zealand.

Ahakoa kei whea, Ahakoa āwhea, Ahakoa pēwhea, Kōrerotia te reo Māori! Māori language – everyday, everyway, everywhere

The series is funded by Te Māngai Pāho, the Government Māori language agency operating in the broadcast sector. Te Māngai Pāho’s purpose is to promote Māori language and Māori culture.

This initiative forms part of a strategy to explore opportunities offered by new media to reach diverse audiences. The aim is to bring the sound and meaning of te Reo Māori into everyday classroom and home activities.

The rest of the series of ten puzzles will be released during January.
