Our stories

Keen to learn more about Aotearoa New Zealand’s history prior to the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi? Take a look at our new app telling the story of Ngāti Whātua Ōrakei.

Launched at the historic Mission Bay Stonehouse this month and available for free download this app covers the iwi’s story up until the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi in 1840.

It’s an interactive app with synchronised text and audio in both Te Reo Māori and English, with the reader able to switch between languages.

“The app is important because it rewrites the standard story and helps us all to engage in contemporary issues with understanding”

Tamsin Hanly, Co-Author

It is the latest in a series of Te Reo Māori materials created through Te Aho Ngārahu, which focuses on developing localised stories into curriculum resources to support ākonga and kaiako.

The app includes teachers’ notes and ideas for activities with students and will be made available to all schools across Aotearoa New Zealand.
